Novel

The bond between Rachel and her bi-racial daughter is fraying. When the teen disappears, Rachel uncovers an electronic underworld linking the past to present dangers…

Novel in progress: Alias Games

Alias Games is a work of contemporary literary fiction with the drive of a psychological thriller. It strips bare the dynamic between middle-aged single parent, Rachel Kerr, an educational psychologist, and her mixed-race daughter, Natalie. Alias Games connects with current concerns around the internet, identity and authenticity, the role of genetic inheritance and the universal need for a sense of belonging. The story echoes the Greek myth of Demeter’s journey to the Underworld to rescue Persephone.

Rachel has lived in an emotional winter because of sacrifices made and has never told Natalie about her father. When the teenager disappears, believing she has found him on the internet, Rachel uncovers an electronic trail linking the past to present danger. The path to Natalie leads Rachel to an insular Cornish creekside hamlet and deep into a virtual underworld of interconnected identities, one of which masks a sinister sexual predator.

During the summer of Natalie’s sixteenth birthday, mother and daughter will learn enduring lessons about freedom, responsibility and consequences. Before Rachel can confront the past and break through to her own new spring, she must first navigate the relationship between the real and virtual worlds and decipher the truth behind the alias games…
